Captain Chuck on the water

Master Captain

500+ boaters taught

I've been on the water my whole life. I grew up running powerboats in the Bay Area, spent years working as a captain chartering groups on Folsom Lake, and for the past 27+ years I've dedicated myself to one thing: helping powerboaters like you feel completely at home at the helm.

Docking is the part of boating that makes most people nervous — and for good reason. It's the moment when everything has to come together: reading the wind, managing momentum, communicating with your crew, and staying calm under pressure. I've seen it trip up brand-new boaters and seasoned captains alike.

My approach is simple. Most lessons take place on your boat, at your marina, in real conditions. No classroom theory — just hands-on practice with clear, patient instruction. And for people who don't own a boat yet, my Boat Savvy lesson puts you at the helm of my personal 2020 Super Air Nautique G23 on Folsom Lake. I'll show you exactly what to look for, how to set up your approach, and how to handle yourself on the water with confidence.

Whether you're bringing home your first powerboat, want to master the full day from trailer to haul-out, or just want to feel at home on the water before you buy — I'd love to work with you.

My Teaching Philosophy

Real Boats. Real Conditions. Real Results.

On Your Boat

Every lesson takes place on your actual powerboat, so you're learning the specific handling characteristics you'll deal with every time you go out.

At Your Marina

We work in the slip and marina you use regularly — the exact conditions, currents, and tight spots you face in real life.

At Your Pace

No rushing, no judgment. We go as fast or as slow as you need. The goal is genuine confidence, not just checking a box.

Practical Techniques

Everything I teach is immediately usable. You'll leave each session with specific skills and muscle memory you can apply the very next time you're on the water.
